New Lunar Art - The Drummer’s Moon
It’s been a while since I last shared a monthly moon drawing—life got a bit hectic and I needed to step back for a while. Recently, though, I found myself drawn back to this practice and started reflecting on the Pink Moon. In my mind’s eye, I saw a female figure curled within the full moon, and as I began to sketch, the phrase ‘Drummer’s Moon’ kept echoing in my thoughts. It soon became clear that the woman was holding a drum.
A little while ago, I had the wonderful experience of making my own Medicine Drum with a talented local maker. Through the day we often remarked how these beautiful drums, with their natural hides, resemble the full moon—the flecks and colours in the hide mirroring the patterns we see on the moon’s surface.
Historically, it was women who led sacred drumming in spiritual rituals, though much of this tradition has faded from memory. Some say we’ve lost touch with our innate sense of rhythm and our connection to the natural cycles within and around us. As a native Celt, I often think about how many of our ancient rituals and wisdom have been lost—especially since so much of Celtic tradition was never written down and Christianity changed so much of what was practiced.
I like to imagine the ancient Celts gathering with their drums as the sap began to rise and the first buds appeared on the trees, drumming to awaken the land and welcome the rhythm of summer. That’s what ‘The Drummer’s Moon’ means to me—a reconnection to those lost rhythms and the sacred cycles of nature.

The Drummer’s Moon – Art Print
There’s a quiet rhythm that lives inside each of us—a pulse that connects us to the cycles of nature and the wisdom of our ancestors. “The Drummer’s Moon” was born from a moment of reflection on the Pink Moon and the ancient traditions of women drummers, who once led sacred rituals and awakened the land with their music.
This artwork captures a feminine figure curled within the full moon, holding a drum—an image that came to me in meditation and speaks to our deep, intuitive connection to rhythm, flow, and the lost rituals of the Celts. The colours and textures in the drum mirror the moon’s own surface, reminding us of the beauty and magic in both the seen and unseen.
