Hi friends,

I’m delighted to share the finished artwork for The Empress card. I started out this deck with a very intuitive sketch that I really had no clue what I was creating, it was only when I was half way through that I realised I had started sketching out a tarot card and that it was the Empress card. I love working in this intuitive way and it feels quite nice to think this deck will largely be intuitively led!

After exploring creating the artwork using traditional media, I ran into an issue with my tendinitis in my drawing hand and realised that working traditionally wasn’t going to work for a 78 card deck! My desire for detail was just going to cause too much pain. So it was back to the drawing board that I went and approached the artwork digitally but in a new style for me. I want to create deck that has a unique look and feel for my artwork, so it was fun to explore this digitally and craft a new aesthetic for this deck.

Jennifer Hawkyard
