Divine Masters Oracle - Sopdet
Sopdet from the Divine Masters Oracle
I love this artwork from the Divine Masters Oracle, such a simple artwork and yet so rich and vibrant.
Here is the excerpt from the Guidebook about this Goddess:
Sopdet is the ancient Egyptian name for Sirius, one of their most important stars. The goddess Sopdet is its feminine personification. Her name in hieroglyphics can be translated as “triangle” or “sharp one.” She has been depicted in many forms, most often as a woman wearing a white crown topped by a star, although sometimes she has an elongated head or headpiece, implying she’s from another world.
Sirius is the brightest star in the sky and was of utmost importance to the ancient Egyptians. In fact, our current New Year was celebrated as “the coming of Sopdet,” as during the last week of December Sirius can be found high in the sky between midnight and dawn. It’s a symbol of light and power, but also a reminder that we have all come from the stars and thus have their power within us.
