Exploring Ynys Môn - day 2
Our second day in Anglesey was an absolute beauty. The weather cleared early in the morning to clear blue skies and with an open day to explore as we wished we roamed far and wide. First for a walk around Llyn Cefni reservoir - a good chance to stretch Lily’s legs and see some beautiful wildflowers that we found growing abundantly around the edges of the disused railway. Then we followed our noses North to Holyhead island. Instead of heading into the town of Holyhead, we headed East and found a beautiful coastal park - the Penrhos Coastal Park. This beautiful sanctuary had gorgeous beaches to explore, cool woodlands that were filled with wildlife including the endangered and native to the UK Red Squirrel (didn’t see any!) A beautiful headland rose up to give a stunning view across the bay to the other side of Anglesey with wildflowers growing abundantly in a sprawling meadow. Below that we found a gorgeous beach of white shell-sands and we took some time to sit and enjoy the sun and do a bit of painting.
I’ve since discovered that this beautiful park is currently being fought over as development companies want to tear down the ancient forests and build a camping ground with cabins and such. Nothing is sacred it seems, though there is an active group who are trying to stop this from happening and protect the land. I hope they succeed as the energy of this beautiful park is really quite special.
We then stopped to grab supplies for a picnic and headed South to Newborough Forest on the South West corner of Anglesey. We hoped to catch a glimpse of a beautiful lighthouse that is situated there but sadly it’s a no dog area so we couldn’t go there. The park though was massive and clearly very popular, the views across to the mainlands and the mountains of North Wales were spectacular! I can understand why it’s such a popular spot!
We headed home relatively early, exhausted from a day in the sun with a little bit of sunstroke to boot!
