Behind the Scenes of the #JezhawkSpiritualArtChallenge: From Vision to Creation
As we approach the halfway point of the #JezhawkSpiritualArtChallenge, I wanted to take a moment to share a glimpse into my creative process. This journey has been so inspiring, not only for me but also for the incredible community of artists participating. I’ve loved seeing everyone share their work, regardless of where they feel they are in their artistic journey—it’s a beautiful reminder that art is for everyone.
For this post, I’m pulling back the curtain on how my pieces come to life, starting with the very first step: my sketches. These preliminary sketches are the foundation of everything I create, and I thought it would be helpful to show you how they all begin.
The Role of Meditation in My Creative Process
Most of my visions come to me during meditation sessions, which typically last between 45 minutes to an hour. Once the session ends, I immediately reach for my journal and a simple ink pen. At this stage, I aim to capture the essence of what I’ve been shown—composition, colors, and key elements—without worrying about the finer details.
I specifically use a pen because it allows me to stay focused on the flow of the vision rather than getting caught up in perfection or erasing mistakes. Often, I’m still in a semi-meditative, trance-like state, so this raw sketch becomes a powerful tool. It acts as a portal or keyhole to the fully formed image in my mind’s eye.
From Sketch to Final Piece
Interestingly, I never transition straight to the computer after sketching. My meditation sessions usually take place in the evening, and I use the time afterward to rest and let the vision settle. When I revisit the sketch later, it serves as a guide to recreate the image as closely as possible to what I saw during meditation.
This is where my 30+ years of practice come in, but here’s the key takeaway: you don’t need decades of experience to capture your intuitive visions. That initial sketch, no matter how simple or rough, holds immense wisdom and intelligence. It’s not about perfection—it’s about connection.
Embracing Your Intuition
Whether you express your vision through art, photography, writing, or even a heartfelt conversation, the act of capturing and sharing your intuitive insights is what matters most. I hope this behind-the-scenes look at my process inspires you to trust your own creative instincts and embrace the beauty of imperfection.
