Adventures in Morocco
Hi friends, I had the pleasure of going to Morocco this January for a week at the wonderful Holidays with Heart - La Maison Anglaise. I was there for a yoga retreat, but naturally I spent a fair amount of time painting and journalling too - primarily because I will returning to this lovely location to host my own Creative Journalling Retreat.
I’m so glad I got to see the venue well in advance of going there as a tutor in September. I got to see how everything works, how the day flows and attend the excursions and see what will work best for our artsy group!
The venue itself is a small (fits 20 guests) eco-lodge. It has been designed from the ground up using traditional building techniques and cutting edge eco-minded techniques. The result is a beautiful sanctuary on the edges of the bustling walled-city of Taroudant. You can spend the day exploring the myriad of traditional souks and learning how to haggle and then retreat to this lovely lodge replete with beautiful fragrant herbs and native flowers and succulents and its very own fresh water pool.
The structure of the days are such that you can really do as you wish. You can either join the daily excursions or spend the day exploring as you wish, or resting within the walls of the eco-lodge. As an artist you’re spoiled for choices of things to inspire you. The lodge itself is filled with beautiful compositions that you could spend more than a week painting. To join the excursions is to see some of the wonderful surroundings such as the spectacular High Atlas Mountains or a local Oasis and the amazing farm lands that surround it.
One of my favourite parts of the week was visiting a fabulous palace by an artist that decided to settle in Morocco. They were clearly very successful and built a stunning palace inspired by the traditional architecture and filled it with their own artwork as well as a huge collection of museum quality pieces. It’s an artistic paradise and one I’m excited to see again!
