Custom Foil Design for matching 2-book set
I was contracted to design two custom foil designs for a 2-book set featuring a beautiful Victorian-Gothic gate design for each cover. The gate designs would feature some key elements from the book and as well as the book title woven into the structure of the gate.
Sketching
During the sketching phase I fell into my love of detail, ornamentation and curlicue to create beautiful swirling and intricate designs. I explored Victorian, Gothic and Baroque influences during my research stage as well as discovering the wonders of wrought iron gate design that strongly influenced the structure and design of the gates. I wanted the design to feel real and familiar and yet also otherworldly.
File refinment
Once the sketches were approved I then moved on to refining the artwork files and transferring them into a foil suitable vector format. Line weights were tweaked to match the tolerances of the print specifications and various areas balanced and refined to produce a cohesive effect on the cover.
