Children’s Book illustration
I was delighted to be approached by Natalie to illustrate her first children’s book - ‘The Wish in a Dish’ - a delightful faerie story that helps children’ understand how their thoughts and feelings can change the world around them.
hand-drawn illustrations layered with colour and texture
We landed on an aesthetic for the book that had a rich visual style of glorious washes of vibrant watercolour, with detailed and intricate line drawings of the magical world Natalie created.
A diverse cast of characters
Story City is naturally inclusive and respectful of all. It was a pleasure to explore this growing cast of characters of all colours, shapes and sizes to reflect the vibrant world in which the faeries reside.
Supporting brand elements
Using the rich illustrative style established within the pages of the book, I drew upon my skills as a web designer to expand Natalie’s brand into a cohesive and professional presence online and in printed elements required for promotional efforts.
inviting play and exploration
After completing the illustrations of the book, I converted some of the illustrations into colouring pages for people to download and explore Story City in their own colours.
These elements are available on the website now >
Book trailer animation
Once the book was complete, I switched into Procreate Dreams to create a unique animation to tease the story of ‘The Wish in a Dish’, using a stop-motion type effect to create a fun and whimsical book trailer.

Watch Our Magic Makers talk
It was my pleasure to have Natalie join my Magic Makers podcast to talk about her new book, how it came about and what lies ahead for her creative endeavours.
