A Word on Prayers
Orison - By Jennifer Hawkyard
Hi friends, today I thought I would share with you one of my pieces not featured in the Angel Guide Oracle deck but certainly a piece that helped us hone in on what we were doing during the creative process. As you may have garnered from following my page, almost every piece I do has some story behind it and this one is no exception. Orison was created during a difficult time for our family, my lovely sister was pregnant with her second child but unfortunately there were some serious complications and concerns that the baby would not make it to birth. It would be a statistical miracle if she made it. At times like these I tend to turn to my art to try and figure out my feelings and feel like I could actually DO something when I felt completely helpless. This little baby had so much love and prayers coming her way during this time and although we didn't know what would happen I wanted to paint something for all the mothers who had been in this situation, those who had waited so desperately and lost their child, or those who had prayed for a miracle and it had come to fruition. I wanted to create a piece that showed that we are all looked over and cherished and guarded in one way or another.
Amazingly, my little niece proved to be a fighter and a statistical miracle and made it to birth, undergoing multiple operations through the first month of her birth and spending her first few months in a leading children's hospital in LA. A print of Orison now resides in the staff lunch room in the NICU as a thank you for all those who tirelessly took care of her during this time.
So there we have it, the story behind Orison - a beautiful word for Prayer.
