Crow Moon

A black crow spreads its wings and rises with a twig in its beak towards and shimmering moon in a red eclipse.

Crow Moon by Jennifer Hawkyard

Crow Moon is my latest exploration of the different ‘named’ moons of the year. And I couldn’t resit weaving into it the recent lunar eclipse during the full moon. This artwork explores the turbulent and transformative energy that accompanied this celestial event. The crow, a symbol of mystery, intuition, and transformation, takes center stage, its wings outstretched beneath the eclipsed moon. The intricate details of the feathers, the glowing branches, and the interplay of light and shadow reflect the duality of chaos and clarity.

Through this piece, I sought to channel the intense emotions and spiritual shifts that many of us felt during the eclipse. The Crow Moon invites viewers to embrace the challenges of change, to navigate the shadows with courage, and to recognize the beauty that emerges from upheaval. It’s a reminder that even in the most tumultuous moments, there is an opportunity for growth, renewal, and connection to the greater cosmic flow.

I found the creation of this artwork quite challenging, perhaps because of the intense energies it represented but also very satisfying in the completion of it. What did you feel through this period? What does the artwork represent for you? Let me know in the comments below.
