Vegetable Garden Attempt No.1
Vegetable Garden Attempt No.1
Sometimes an idea just won’t leave you alone until you give up and start working on it.
That is true for both my little garden that inspired this mini-website and the design behind it.
Wren’s Garden started in Spring 2010...well I suppose the seeds were planted in my mind in the late winter when, as usual with the impossibly long Canadian winter, I was craving greenery! I decided to try growing a vegetable garden for the first time.
We had the perfect spot for it, a small area fenced off behind the garage, safe from marauding Salukis and a perfect sun trap.
First step was to do some reading up. Even though I grew up in the countryside and knew the general idea behind growing a veggie garden, I needed a back up book to help me through!
As Canada thawed, much planning, seed buying and planting ensued. Shortly after, the Great Battle for the Veggie Plot began. The primary enemy being the Crab Grass (of doom).
How It All Started
Chief Garden Helpers
Of the four Salukis in our home, Man of the House - Ryder, is the only one who can be trusted in the Veggie Garden. Most times when I check the garden in the evenings he will trot down with me and help inspect the plants for weeds and marauding bugs and unlike the others will always keep to the grass pathways.

Note:
The Crab Grass, although largely banished from the garden keeps sneaking back. Thankfully it has a weak root system so it’s fairly easy to keep at bay.
