As it Stands Right Now
As it Stands Right Now
Sometimes an idea just won’t leave you alone until you give up and start working on it.
That is true for both my little garden that inspired this mini-website and the design behind it.
July 21st 2010
It’s almost been a month since my first update and yet so much has happened since then. After several hefty rain-filled storms and the occasional weeding session. I went into my garden today and found that everything had near tripled in size.
A few weeks or so ago I harvested my first Peas and Wild Strawberries. I had no idea of what to expect of the strawberries and it turns out, that even though they are tiny(and very easy to accidentally wash down the drain since they weigh nothing) they taste...well let’s just say, they are little Nuggets of Yum, and shall be called that from here on in! (They are like the perfect strawberry, condensed into tiny form, a delightful taste explosion in your mouth!)
Time to Fill up the Fridge
The lettuce has been an absolute success and was the first veggie that I was able to harvest. There’s nothing like picking a few leaves and slicing them up for a salad right away. The taste is fabulous and far beyond anything I’ve bought at a grocery store. It baffles me why everyone doesn’t grow this stuff, even in planters, so that through the summer they can have fresh lettuce instead of being slaves to chemical sprayed stuff from the shops.

First Carrot
Ok, excuse me for getting a little over-excited about this, but when you’ve watched your seeds grow from tiny fragile seedlings in their little cardboard pots, carefully re-planted them when you think they’re brave enough to handle the big bad world, and watched them grow foot high beautiful green fronds you’ll understand.
I harvested the first Carrot today. A little test run to see how they are doing. Hind sight being the wonderful thing that is - I probably shouldn’t have planted them in the small compostable pots, because now, I fear I am going to have pot-shaped carrots (this test carrot holds true to that), but I figure, that like the Nuggets of Yum mentioned earlier, they will just have more concentrated flavour.
I plan to find out tomorrow, when I have it for lunch...though right now I feel so proud I could frame this little carrot or run around the neighbourhood showing it to everyone...
